Recent events have led to a lot of criticism on the activity of American Police Officers and their value for life, not to mention their sensitivity to human suffering. This is just propaganda and lies propagated by people with personal agendas.
Despite the rising anti-police attitude, this selfless workforce, under the guidance of the National Police Association, still goes on with their daily duties of enforcing the law and saving the lives of fellow citizens. If you hold a tainted opinion of the police, the following story will likely change your mind.
This is the story of a body who found salvation in the family of a law enforcement officer.
Ronnie’s Homicidal father stands trial
Ronnie was lucky to have survived a maniacal incident whereby his biological father murdered his mother and his 9-year old nonverbal sister. The incident was so bad that police officers involved have difficulty dealing with the psychological effects.
The father to this young boy, Ronnie Oneal III, recently stood trial in Tampa, where he represented himself. He was charged on three accounts: a double murder of his wife and daughter, the attempted murder of his son, and the torching of the family home.
Addressing the jury, the prosecutor Ronald Gale termed the case as being quite emotional and heartbreaking. He also pointed that the evidence and testimony had been by turns gruesome and disturbing.
The jury found the accused self-representation as a mockery to the court. They unanimously agreed that he was a deranged man who snatched two lives before stabbing Ronnie, setting him ablaze, and leaving him for dead.
Ronnies father is now serving multiple life terms in state prison.
Corporal Mike Blair adopts Ronnie
Hillsborough County Deputy Mike Blair acknowledges the young boy, Ronnie, as part of his family. Corporal Mike Blair, who responded to the scene, met Ronnie for the first time a few weeks later at the hospital.
On their first meeting, which would be the start of new beginnings as family, Ronnie requested the corporal stay and watched a movie with him. And five months later, he became part of the Blairs family.
Despite the sad story behind this union, as the Blairs open up about it, you can’t miss the beauty of family and love.
The commitment of America’s courageous police warriors
The story of Ronnie is just one among other heroic acts of American Police Officers that have to work in the mean streets. And with the help of the National Police Association, these officers get the necessary support to carry out their duties. Additionally, it brings up the abject hate and deafening defiance to law and order, which these officers have to face every day from society. Besides, the wave of hatred we are experiencing towards the police force emanates from specific political winds and over-dramatization of real-life tragedies.
It is hard to imagine just what the eight-year-old Ronnie endured and how his life would have been like if he hadn’t met the corporal. At Tampa hospital, surrounded by nurses and doctors, this young boy met the savior angle in the deputy who was just doing his job.
It is not just a coincidence how the corporal stood up to the task. These law enforcement officers have to go beyond their duty demands, trying to figure out what more could be done for victims of similar events.
Officers also feel the need to reach out to an endless list of victims of crimes whose lives were utterly altered by such occurrences. Not out of the call of duty, but because they need closure just like the victims.
Training officers have to go the extra mile to implement more effective strategies. This could involve listening to calls and figuring out events in the background, the victim’s emotions, and what could have been done differently. In such circumstances, hindsight is 20/20. It would be helpful if cops authored books based on experience for use by future generations.
Moreover, it is the hope of every police officer that the victims make it through. Ronnies case is just a replication of the daily events in the life of a corp. Besides, the action of this generous family is a reflection of American society.
It is undeniable that this boy found a good family. In his words, “I am safe, I am loved, and I am part of this family.”
